Manufacturers Optimize Conveyor Ball Components
Engineers at several material handling companies have developed improved ball transfer designs. The new units show better load distribution in conveyor systems. Some factories report 15% longer service life with the updated components.
Testing focused on 50mm and 75mm diameter ball transfers. The research examined stainless steel and carbon steel variants. Load capacity ratings improved from 350kg to 400kg for standard units. This came from changes to the housing design and ball retention mechanism.
Several automotive plants adopted the new designs last quarter. One facility reported fewer maintenance stops on their assembly line. Another noted smoother transitions between conveyor sections. The changes help with heavier automotive parts like engine blocks and transmission cases.
Other industries are evaluating the technology. Food processing plants need corrosion-resistant options. Logistics centers want faster package sorting. The ball transfer market expects continued growth through next year.
One engineer commented, "The challenge is balancing load capacity with rolling resistance. we tested multiple ball materials before settling on the current design."
Future work may explore polymer composite balls. These could reduce weight while maintaining durability. Temperature resistance also needs improvement for harsh environments.
